Folkloric Dance Group

The students of Fundación A. Jean Brugger took the initiative to develop a way for them to promote local Nicaraguan culture by forming a dance group called “Así es mi Tierra” (“This is my Country”). Incorporating their own rhythms from past and present Nicaraguan culture, they rescue the moral, spiritual, and cultural values that could be easily forgotten. These values are the fundamentals of a complete educational development within each student of Fundación A. Jean Brugger.

Fundación A. Jean Brugger’s dance group “Así es mi Tierra” took its first steps in March 2008 by a small group of 5 students interested in learning more about traditional Nicaraguan dance and other types of Latin music. Today “Así es mi Tierra” is comprised of 15 dancers and a board of peer advisors.

Así es mi Tierra was recently invited to dance aboard the Windstar cruise ship that passes through San Juan del Sur several weeks each year. The first performance was on February 23rd and they received such great reviews that they have been invited to perform each Monday for the seven weeks the Windstar will be in San Juan del Sur.

Así es mi Tierra also recently auditioned in Masaya (a city about 90 minutes away) and will be dancing at the weekly verbena, a cultural activity with dancing, singing and other performances. The group has also been invited to dance at the Fiestas Patronales of San Juan del Sur, which is a festival in June to celebrate St. John, the city’s patron saint.
